Speaker: District Governor Kay Parries
Bio:
District Governor Kay Parries has been a member of the Moorhead Rotary Club since 1988 and served as President in 1995/96 and 2012/13. She also was a member of the Fargo West Club during a change in job location. Kay served as an Assistant Governor for Area 5, for six years in the Fargo/Moorhead Clubs. She calls that one of her favorite Rotary positions. She continues to work with the Fargo/Moorhead 5 Club Presidents group.
Kay attended the past two Rotary International Conferences in Houston and Singapore. Kay was the Group Study Exchange Leader in Iceland. Her family has hosted two Youth Exchange Students, Jonsi, from Iceland and Siri from Norway. They have maintained contact with them over the past 30 years. As the American Parents, they attended Jonsi’s wedding.
Kay is originally from Elgin, Illinois. Her first knowledge of Rotary was a Rotary High School Scholarship. She has worked in retail for the past 44 years. She worked for Herberger’s Department Store for 23 years, starting in LaCrosse, WI. She was transferred to Moorhead, MN where she became the store manager. After retiring, she bought a craft store in Moorhead and renamed it K & Krafts. After 21 years, she closed her store and retired again from retail. Dan worked for Wells Fargo and, after retirement, helped Kay at the store.
Kay and Dan have been married for 35 years and have a daughter. Emily is an RN in Fargo, married to Tyler. They have two boys, Tate, four years old, and Hayden, 18 months.
Kay will continue to promote Mental Health with a focus on Children, and the Environment. She loves Rotary President Stephanie Urchick’s, theme, The Magic of Rotary, and encourages everyone to embrace it and have fun!
Program:
Our own Rick Bricker convinced Kay to become district governor. Our district is 1,700 miles across. We have approximately 2,100 Rotarians in our district. Kay's goal for the district is to add 100 new members. This year's theme is The Magic of Rotary. Kay talked about inviting more people to visit our club and what makes our club special.
Kay invited everyone to follow the District Facebook page. You can find the page here.
District 5580
Kay talked about international conventions. She attended the convention in Singapore. We already have 21 people from our district registered to attend the next international convention in Calgary. This is a great opportunity to attend an international convention closer to home.
Club History from Paula Persons:

Brainerd's two traditional rival clubs, the Lions and Rotarians, will renew their rabid softball series on July 27 at the Fill Grounds. It's a benefit game for the Trading Post, Brainerd's juvenile recreation center. The challenge was made by the Lions to answer for several setbacks in bowling against the Rotarians this past winter.
