Speakers: Adam Rees continued his Cambodian medical mission presentation from last month. In November 2023 Rotarian's Adam Rees (Brainerd, MN Rotary Club) and Floyd Hatch (Salt Lake City, Utah Rotary Club) assessed the Cambodian medical system focusing on the needs of villagers in the Pursat Province. The genesis of this trip came from Rotary’s Sustainable Cambodia Foundation, (Gainesville, Florida Club) February 2023 trips.
Adam began his trip in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Vietnam visiting physicians and hospitals to learn about their health system and their countries perspective on Cambodian healthcare. He traveled to Phnom Penh and joined the rest of the Rotary team to learn about the countries Level 1 medical system. Brent Muhlestein, MD (Spouse Elaine) is a cardiologist on leave for LDS missionary work as a “welfare medical specialists” (assessing and applying for grants from the LDS Churches Welfare Department for medical equipment and facility projects). Most of the trip was spent in the Pursat Province for an in-depth assessment of the Level 2 and 3 provincial health system. The trip ended in Siem Reap with a visit to the Angkor Hospital for Children before returning home.

The conclusion of this trip will be presented at an upcoming club meeting with an analysis of the health situation. The goal is to develop a strategic plan for our club and other clubs to improve the health of rural villagers of the Pursat province.
