Paula announced that in 1990 our club started the Central Lakes Club. The Club Board accepted with regret the resignation of Ruthie Germander. Upi will be sent by mail the June 25, 2024 Annual Change of Gavel event to be held at Cragun's Golf Resort Pavilion. Sarah Smith sent email RSVP for you to note not only your attendance but also if you are bringing a guest. We need your response to accurately plan for the amazing buffet that will be served.
Paula asked club members to help distribute invites to spouses of deceased long time Rotary club members and our honorary club members. Paul Cibuzar will invite Shellie Cibuzar and Gisella Borgwarth while Paula Persons is inviting Jo Little, Adam Rees inviting Sue Bricker and Paula Chapulis inviting Jack and Ann Ruttger.
Jesse announced, our 24/24 rotary exchange student Ricco Junqueira Lemes from Brazil will arrive in August. He was captain of his volley ball team and is big soccer fan. Since Jesse has a fall host family in place he is looking for winter and spring host families. He requests club members to help identify suitable host families and forward their names to him at jesse.david.hopkins@gmail.com. Jesse will continue to be the YEO Administrator but is looking for a youth exchange counselor. Our outbound student Adam Locken returns in a few weeks and will present his exchange experience soon.
Aaron Antony stated the ditch pickup was being cancelled for Tuesday, May 21 because of rain. He will reschedule this event so please check your club emails. Unfortunately we had poor turnout for last weeks Northland Arboretum work but will try again later this year.
Adam Rees reported that Peter Nelson led a rotary park work effort last Wednesday with a good volunteer turnout that was helped by some Teen Challenge men. We installed:
- 12 posts to outline the Field of Seeds.
- 5 extensions to existing duck house poles (who knew ducks prefer penthouse accommodations)
Kevin Thesing provided a raffle wrap up. Many attended last Thursdays event which raised approximately 14 to 15K for the club's foundation. He had 70 slips with club members names, 1 slip for each 3 tickets sold for a Paul Harris Fellow Drawing, which Kevin won.
Speakers: Paula's club meeting was about getting to know newer rotarians so we can all learn and appreciate them more.
Rick Adams, loves the outdoors and scouting was an important youth activity. He went to college and met his wife Cathy. He joined the airforce and returned to live and work in the Forest Lake area of MN, and raise 2 children. When he moved to the lakes area and he built cell phone towers and started his own company. His wife worked for Initiative Foundation with Kathy Gaalswyk and Matt Killian (both Rotarians). His world mission work was in Haiti and he started an NGO before joining central lakes rotary 12 years ago, He's a big supported of RI Foundation being a major donor. About 2 years ago he joined the Brainerd club, His major hobby is corvette cars and high performance driving at speeds of 140-150 on race tacks.
Travis Grossman, grew up south of Staples MN working for his families business, Little Moran Hunt Club. He loves golf, and hunting and fishing. He went to college and worked in the auto motive industry and then became a realtor and worked for 10 yrs at Kurilla. He is now the executive director for Camp Confidence and has found his true calling. He is married with 6 children in a blended family ranging from 9-16 years of age.
